Saga Toriimoto Traditional District

The Saga-Toriihon area has developed as a major transportation hub along the highway connecting Kyoto and Kameoka since ancient times.
The area was crowded with inns and teahouses during the Edo period (1603-1867) with visitors and travelers.
Many thatched-roof houses, townhouses, stone-paved streets, and other traditional buildings from the Edo period
to the Meiji period still remain.
Many traditional buildings from the Edo and Meiji periods, such as thatch-roofed houses and machiya (town houses)
and stone-paved streets, still remain
and the historical townscape can still be seen today.
It is a precious place where one can feel the atmosphere of good old Japan and the Edo period.
Nearby is Atago Nenbutsu-ji Temple, where we recommend taking a stroll while taking a pre-shoot.
