Kitano Tenmangu, which is affectionately known as “Tenjin-san,” enshrines “Sugawara no Michizane,” who is revered as the god of learning. Speaking of plums in Kyoto, many people think of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, and there are about 1,500 plum trees of about 30 varieties on the precincts. There is a fee, but Kitano Tenmangu Shrine has a plum garden and a maple garden. Every year, from late February to mid-March, the plum blossoms are in full bloom, from mid-April to late June, green maple leaves, and from late October to early December, autumn leaves are at their peak. There is also a red bridge in “Momijien”, and it is also a popular photo spot.
