Kawazu-zakura is a new species of cherry tree that was discovered in Kawazu-cho, Kamo-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1955. It bloomed for the first time in 1966 and was named Kawazuzakura in 1974. In recent years, it has become possible to see it in many places in the Kansai region, but the only place where you can see a row of large-scale cherry blossom trees is the Yodo Canal in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. Along the Yodo Canal, you can enjoy a beautiful row of cherry blossom trees lined with 300 Kawazu cherry trees. The Kawazu cherry blossoms of Yodo Canal still have a short history, but they are usually in bloom for a long period of time from late February to late March. They are in full bloom in mid-March, and in recent years have been attracting attention, mainly on social media, as the fastest place to enjoy cherry blossom viewing in Kyoto.
