The Philosopher’s Path is a 2km walkway that connects Ginkakuji temple and Nanzenji temple, and the canal that runs alongside it is a canal drawn from Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake. It is famous as a cherry blossom spot, but you can also see beautiful autumn leaves in autumn, and the reflection of cherry blossoms and autumn leaves on the river is a spectacular place. You can enjoy different scenery in each season.
Nanzenji Temple is located further south from Philosopher’s Path. It is the most prestigious Zen temple in Japan, and in its precincts, you can find Japan’s tallest Sanmon Gate, the modern Suirokaku, and the famous Karesansui garden Hojo Garden. Nanzenji Temple is very refreshing during the season of fresh green, but during the season of autumn leaves, the vast precincts of Nanzenji Temple, which covers about 45,000 tsubo, are dyed in red, and the scenery is captivating to those who see it. We recommend visiting during the fall season.
